Maryland Physicians Care Celebrates Community Through Sponsorship of AFRAM’s 50th Anniversary
Maryland Physicians Care (MPC) proudly celebrated the 50th anniversary of AFRAM, one of the largest African American festivals on the East Coast. The three-day Baltimore festival attracted more than 100,000 attendees, providing an opportunity for organizations, community leaders, and residents to come together in celebration and connection.
For decades, AFRAM has brought together families, community leaders, businesses, and organizations to celebrate African American culture, heritage, and achievement. As a longtime supporter of the festival, Maryland Physicians Care used the milestone event to connect with the community, promote access to healthcare resources, and strengthen relationships in one of its key service areas.
“Showing up for our communities is an important part of our mission,” said Darryl Gray, MPC Community Engagement Team Lead. “AFRAM gives us the opportunity to celebrate alongside community members while sharing health information and resources that support their well-being.”
Saint Agnes Hospital, one of MPC’s owner hospitals, joined the event. Saint Agnes provided free blood pressure screenings and shared information about its mobile healthcare services and the upcoming Edmondson Village location, which is scheduled to open later this year.
MPC also engaged attendees through its “I Am a Fan of MPC Because…” activation. To receive a handheld fan and other cooling giveaways, participants were invited to share why they are fans of Maryland Physicians Care. Responses highlighted the value members place on MPC’s benefits, care management services, support, and commitment to helping them meet their healthcare needs. Comments included:

- “Good benefits and free care.”
- “Offer what I need for my best healing.”
- “Love care management at MPC.”
- “We love the support.”
Throughout the weekend, MPC helped festivalgoers beat the summer heat by distributing visors and cooling towels, which proved to be some of the event’s most popular giveaways. Through community partnerships, health education, and outreach opportunities like AFRAM, Maryland Physicians Care remains committed to improving access to care and supporting the health and well-being of Marylanders.
