Maryland Physicians Care Strengthens Partnerships and Health Access in Latino Communities Across Maryland
Latino Families Were Supported Through Collaborations with Community Organizations and Trusted Partners
Maryland Physicians Care (MPC) completed a landmark community engagement initiative designed to deepen trust and expand access to health information among Latino and Spanish-speaking communities across Maryland. In 2025, Maryland Physicians Care collaborated with respected community leaders and wellness advocates to deliver culturally relevant health education and outreach across Baltimore City, Montgomery County, and Prince George’s County.
Maryland Physicians Care centered its approach on a simple premise: meet families where they already gather and communicate through voices they already trust. By partnering with grassroots organizations, wellness leaders, and maternal health specialists, Maryland Physicians Care expanded its presence at neighborhood events, faith-based gatherings, wellness activities, and digital community spaces, offering families multiple, comfortable pathways to access health information.
The initiative blended culture, movement, and health to make wellness feel engaging and accessible. Families participated in joyful movement activities, bilingual wellness challenges, and community fitness events designed to make preventive care approachable. Mothers connected with trusted maternal health experts in intimate group settings rooted in the tradition of Latina women sharing wisdom and supporting one another. Digital touchpoints, including WhatsApp messages and community newsletters, provided ongoing access to clear, practical health information in Spanish.
Across these experiences, Maryland Physicians Care emphasized trust-building, cultural relevance, and genuine relationship development, key components in helping families feel informed, supported, and valued.
“These initiatives reflect Maryland Physicians Care’s commitment to showing up for Latino communities with humility, respect, and consistency,” said Shannon Jones, Senior Community Engagement Manager of Maryland Physicians Care. “Health communication works best when it honors culture, builds trust, and centers the lived experiences of the families we serve.”
The community’s response reinforced the value of this approach. Families engaged with Maryland Physicians Care throughout the year, asking questions, participating in wellness activities, and connecting with team members in welcoming environments.
“Our goal was simple: create multiple entry points for families to get the information they need in formats that feel familiar, welcoming, and culturally aligned,” said Charles Buseck, Chief Operating Officer at Maryland Physicians Care. “This year proved that when we honor how communities naturally gather and learn, trust follows.”
These efforts are a core component of Maryland Physicians Care’s 2025 Engagement Plan, part of the organization’s long-term commitment to improving health literacy, strengthening community partnerships and expanding access to care for Latino and Spanish-speaking families across Maryland.
