How long does it take a new member to receive an ID card?

Maryland Physicians Care sends an ID card and a package of information to new members within 10 days of receiving enrollment information. You should use your 11-digit Medical Assistance number (which is on the red-and-white card) to continue care until your Maryland Physicians Care ID card arrives.

How do I find out what services are covered?

Preventive care and services that are medically necessary are covered. Your primary care provider or an approved Maryland Physicians Care specialist will coordinate these services. See the Member Handbook or call HealthChoice Member Services at 1-800-953-8854 for more information.

Is there a co-pay for medications?

Maryland Physicians Care adult members (21 and older) will have the following copayments for Pharmacy Services:

  • $1.00 co pay for generic drugs
  • $3.00 co pay for brand name drugs
Please note: The copayments do not apply to pregnant women and children (20 and under). Some contraceptive drugs; over the counter prescriptions; and certain specialty pharmacy drugs also have no copayment.

Do members need referrals from their primary care providers (PCPs) for well-woman checkups?

No. Members may see their gynecologists for well-woman visits without a referral.

How do I see a specialist?

Maryland Physicians Care members must first see their primary care provider. If your PCP determines you need to see a specialist, he or she will make the referral.

Do I need a referral to see a dentist?

Referrals are not needed to see a dentist. For information about your dental benefits please see the MPC HealthChoice and Primary Adult Care handbook or call DentaQuest at 1-800-685-1150 (HealthChoice).

Does Maryland Physicians Care cover abortions?

No, but those services may be provided through the State of Maryland. Contact the State of Maryland for more information or call 1-800-284-4510.

How do I replace a lost ID card?

Call Maryland Physicians Care HealthChoice Member Services at 1-800-953-8854. Maryland Physicians Care will verify your name, mailing address, date of birth, phone number and current doctor before issuing a new ID card.

What if I want to change to a doctor closer to home?

Maryland Physicians Care provides members with other doctors’ names within their area or ZIP code. In most cases, this change will be effective the same day you tell Maryland Physicians Care that you want change doctors.
