Your Child's Health

Maryland Physicians Care promotes preventive health care services through regular well-child checkups for infants, children, teens and young adults to age 21 years.

Well-child checkups include:

  • Health assessment that includes:
    1. Health and developmental history
    2. Physical examination
    3. Age-appropriate immunizations
    4. Needed laboratory testing
    5. Age-appropriate health education
  • Vision assessment (eyeglasses if needed)
  • Dental assessment
  • Hearing assessment
  • Referrals for treatment services of identified health problems

Schedule well-child checkups at the following times:

  • First visit at 2 weeks of age for newborn follow-up
  • Five additional visits in the first year: 2, 4, 6, 9 and 12 months of age
  • Two visits in the second year: 15 and 18 months
  • One visit each year for ages 2 through 20 years
